Earn an honorarium for programs requiring training and ongoing commitment (Papa Bears, Peer Respite, and Phone Peers).

Ways to Get Involved
Our volunteer opportunities are divided into two streams:
General Volunteers
There are many meaningful ways to get involved with Families Matter, including childcare, administrative assistance, organizing, and project-based work.
Whether you’re capturing moments through photography or lending a hand at community events, your time and skills help build a more connected and resilient community.
Peer Volunteers
Peer Volunteer roles support families through shared experiences, mentorship, and specialized training. These opportunities require a one-year commitment and are available within programs.

All applicants must complete a screening and application process, followed by training to ensure they’re ready for their role.

Our Volunteer Opportunities
MHBC Volunteer Peer Supporter
Provide individualized phone support to African, Caribbean, and Black (ACB) families experiencing perinatal mental health challenges.

Papa Bears Peer Facilitator
Facilitate a safe, welcoming, and inclusive play-based environment where fathers/male caregivers and children ages 0-5 can connect and socialize.

Provide in-home hands-on relief to families who are prenatal and up to one year postpartum.

Offer individualized phone support to parents facing PMH challenges after the birth of a baby.

Looking for a way to make a real difference with your friends, family, or co-workers? Our Kits For A Cause program is an easy, hands-on way for groups of any size to support Calgary families. Whether there are 3 of you or 300, you’ll spend the day assembling essential kits that go directly to those in our community who need them most.
